The final curtain of Sunday’s Premier League action will come from Portman Road where Ipswich Town will be playing host to defending champions Manchester City. The Tractor Boys are the first team below the dotted line, while the Citizens are in sixth place after 21 league games. Check out our match prediction below!
This match marks the first league meeting between these sides at this venue since 2001. Prior to that, Ipswich had lost only one of their previous 28 matches against this opponent. However, these sides have had contrasting paths since then and it was Man City that romped to a 4-1 when they met at the Etihad Stadium this season.
The Citizens have won 20 of their last 21 Premier League games against newly promoted sides, with the exception being a 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest in 2023. The visitors are massive favourites at the books - let’s break down the key stats.

Ipswich Town - Manchester City: Form Analysis
Ipswich Town were building up momentum nicely with a victory over Chelsea and a 2-2 draw with Fulham either side of the New Year. However, their progress was halted by a 2-0 defeat to Brighton in midweek.
Still, the Tractor Boys are improving, having taken seven points from their last six games (W2 D1 L3), while they only managed nine points from their preceding 15 in the top flight.
However, the hosts have struggled for results at home this season, with four defeats in their last five games, while failing to score in three of those matches. They have only won once at Portman Road this term.
Ipswich have only scored 20 goals in 21 league games - the third-lowest tally in the division!
Meanwhile, Manchester City have been enduring one of their worst league campaigns in recent memory, now 12 points behind league leaders Liverpool and having played a game more.
The Citizens dropped points again during the week, relinquishing a two-goal advantage in the final eight minutes away to Brentford. They have now won only two of their last seven league games.
The visitors have been particularly poor by their own standards on the road of late, earning just five points from the last 21 on offer, while they have only won four times in 11 outings this season.

Ipswich Town & Manchester City Squad Analysis
Ahead of the clash against the Seagulls in midweek, Kieran McKenna revealed that Axel Tuanzebe (hamstring) is close to returning to action but this match may have come too soon to see him make his comeback.
Omari Hutchinson, who has been sidelined since sustaining a groin injury in training at the start of the year, returned to the starting lineup last time out and should be available for selection this weekend.
Chiedozie Ogbene (Achilles) is ruled out for the remainder of the season, while Conor Chaplin (knee) and Sammie Szmodics (ankle) are only expected back next month.
Phil Foden has scored four goals in his last five league games for the Citizens!
After five months on the treatment table, Oscar Bobb resumed team training for Man City in the last week and could be included in the matchday squad this weekend.
Similarly, Ruben Dias missed the Citizens’ last six matches across all competitions with a muscle injury but has now been cleared fit and could make the starting 11 in this one.
The only players ruled out for this trip to Suffolk are Rodri and John Stones, though the latter is “getting better” as per Pep Guardiola, and should resume first-team action in the coming days.

Our Ipswich Town vs Manchester City Prediction
Ipswich Town have shown notable improvement in their performances since the New Year, but it is difficult to imagine that they will be able to beat this opponent, regardless of how erratic the champs’ form has been this season.
The Citizens were evidently gutted by their late collapse against Brentford during the week and will be determined to make amends in this match. We fancy the visitors to secure a fairly comfortable victory in this one. Our Ipswich Town vs Manchester City prediction is Manchester City wins & over 2.5.
Ipswich Town vs Manchester City Alternative Predictions
Manchester City over 2.5
Manchester City have scored two or more goals in each of their last three league games and beat this opponent 4-1 in the reverse fixture back in August. Additionally, Ipswich have conceded two or more goals in three of their last four home league matches.
