Group D at the 2025 EuroBasket Women’s tournament will tip off on Friday afternoon, with Great Britain taking on Spain at the Inselpark Arena in Hamburg. Team GB is the number 20 seed in the competition, while La Familia is seeded fifth. Let’s get into the match prediction!
Spain enters this year’s competition as one of the favourites to win the tournament alongside top-seed France. In recent times, La Roja secured back-to-back EuroBasket titles in 2017 and 2019, and were beaten finalists in 2023. Barring the Soviet Union, which dominated the competition before being defunct after 1991, Spain is the most successful nation in EuroBasket with four titles.
Great Britain, meanwhile, is set to make their sixth appearance in this competition, with their best finish coming in 2019 when they claimed fourth. Along with Sweden, the Brits are expected to struggle to progress beyond the group stage. Let’s take a look at the key stats.

Great Britain - Spain: Form Analysis
England enjoyed a very impressive 2025 EuroBasket Women qualifying campaign, notching up four wins in their six group stage games, while recording the highest point differential in their group of +114.
However, since securing their spot in this competition, Team GB have played three friendly matches as part of their preparation and lost all of them, twice against Slovenia and once to 45th-seed Lithuania.
All three of those games came in the last two weeks, and the side failed to score above 60 points in any of those matches. They now have a record of five wins and five defeats in their last 10 across all competitions.
Great Britain has never beaten Spain in their four previous encounters!
Meanwhile, Spain came through qualifying for the 2025 EuroBasket with flying colours, rattling off six consecutive group wins over Croatia, the Netherlands and Austria.
During their warm-up for this tournament, La Familia took on Portugal and Switzerland, and secured two commanding victories, beating the former 68-59 before a 30-point victory over the Swiss.
The Spaniards are now riding a six-match win streak across all competitions. Their only defeat in the last year was against defending EuroBasket champions Belgium in the quarter-final of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Great Britain & Spain Squad Analysis
Great Britain’s captain Temi Fagbenle joined her team this week, following a stunning 16-point, seven-rebound performance for the Golden State Valkeries in the WNBA over the weekend.
Team GB’s skipper is a dominant presence inside the paint and was excellent during qualifying, scoring a combined 61 points and 28 rebounds in her first three games alone.
Along with Fagbenle, Anna Montanana will also look to stalwarts Cheridene Green and Savannah Wilkinson to support their team’s rising stars Kirsty Brown and Hannah Jump.
Holly Winterburn posted a tournament-high 8.4 assists per game during qualifying, along with 13.6 PPG!
Spain was dealt a few significant blows leading up to the tournament, with Maria Conde, Maite Carzola and Queralt Casas all sustaining injuries, which forced them to withdraw from the competition.
However, La Roja are a side bursting with talent, with the likes of Raquel Carrera, Iyana Martin, and Under-20 EuroBasket MVP Awa Fam all ready to make their mark on the competition here in Frankfurt.

Our Great Britain vs Spain Prediction
While Great Britain were solid during qualifying, they have struggled against teams ranked in the top 25 in recent times, having lost to Sweden and Slovenia twice apiece in the last 18 months.
Spain, on the other hand, will be desperate to make amends after their disappointing performance at the Olympic Games last year, and given their recent record, we feel they will secure a statement victory in their opening match of this tournament. Our Great Britain vs Spain prediction is Spain -14.5.
