The 2022 runner-up Gerwyn Price opens his 2025 World Matchplay Darts campaign. Seeded 11th, he faces Northern Ireland's Daryl Gurney in the first round. Will 'The Iceman' keep his cool and defeat Gurney? Read our match prediction below.
Since reaching the final at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool three years ago, Price has twice been knocked out in round two. For the winner of this match, the second round opponent will be either sixth seed Chris Dobey or unseeded Ricardo Pietreczko.
Price was a quarter-finalist in this year's World Championship. He has won one title on the European Tour and also was victorious in the Poland Darts Masters. Alongside Jonny Clayton, he was runner-up for Wales in the 2025 Darts World Cup.
Daryl Gurney is ranked 25th in the world, 16 places below Price. The Northern Irelander has twice reached the semi-final of this tournament but that was in 2017 and again in 2019. He was also a quarter-finalist two years ago but lost in round one in 2024 and it was Price who beat him 10-4.
He was in the Northern Irish team that won the World Cup this year.. Gurney also recently lost to Price in a Players' Championship event. We believe that it will be Price who wins on a -2.5 legs handicap.
