Germany and Bulgaria will meet in the Round of 16 at the 2026 European Championships in Sofia on Saturday afternoon. Bulgaria have won their last three matches against this opponent, and our prediction is that they will come out on top in this one as well. 

Germany kicked off their EuroVolley campaign with a 3-1 comeback against Türkiye and went on to finish second in Pool D with four wins in five, losing only to France in their final match. 

Notably, Germany have suffered a couple of key injuries in the lead-up to this match. Setter Johannes Tille is out for the remainder of the competition after suffering a foot fracture against France. Moritz Karlitzek was injured earlier in the competition. 

Germany have won five of their last 10 matches in all competitions, but have not beaten this opponent since the 2026 Volleyball Nations League. 

Meanwhile, Bulgaria also picked up four wins from their five group-stage matches. They capped off the group stage with a victory over Poland but still finished second to the White and Reds (13-6 set record). 

Aleksandar Nikolov was the standout performer for the team in the last match, producing a massive 36 points from 53 attacks. Denislav Bardarov added 24 points with a 61% attack efficiency. 

Bulgaria have won seven of their last 10 matches in all competitions. Their most recent victory over Germany came at the 2025 VNL (3-0).
