The quarter-finals of the 2026 European Championships kick off Tuesday afternoon in Sofia, with France taking on Romania. The Roosters are 14 places above this opponent in the world rankings, and our prediction is that they will progress to the final four from this tie. 

France progressed to the knockout stages of this competition by finishing as Pool D winners with four wins and one loss. Notably, their sole defeat in the group stage came against Romania. 

The Roosters made light work of Portugal in the Playoffs, securing a commanding 3-0 victory. Trevor Clevenot and Mathis Henno scored 12 points apiece in the last match, while Theo Faure added 10 points. 

France have now won 12 of their last 15 matches across all competitions. These teams have met four times in EuroVolley in the past and have won two games each. 

Meanwhile, Romania made the most their home advantage during the group stage, earning nine points from their five matches to finish third in Pool D (12 sets won, 7 sets lost). 

They then pulled off one of the upsets of the Playoff round by beating Ukraine 3-0 on Sunday evening. Alexandru Rata led the team with 16 points, including an impressive 55% attack efficiency. 

Romania have now won eight of their last 15 matches across all competitions.
