Fiorentina hosting Atalanta fits the profile for one of the big games in Serie A this weekend. At the minimum, these two are battling for slots in Europe, Atalanta currently third and Fiorentina in eighth place. Read on for our prediction of this match.

Fiorentina’s split focus on Serie A and Europe seems to be hurting their domestic targets. La Viola have dropped to eighth though they remain just three points outside the top six.

The race for Europe is congested and Fiorentina will do themselves a favor with a win here. They closed for the international break on a winning note, having beaten Juventus 3-0 and would want to pick it up from there.

Atalanta on their part, will hope for an improvement from their last act. A 2-0 loss at home to Inter Milan has thrown their title charge into disarray.

With nine matches remaining, they are trailing the league leaders by six points. That defeat saw their defence breached for the first time in four matches, but Atalanta have failed to score twice in the last three matches.

Gian Piero Gasperini will be looking to address such inconsistencies. With Ademola Lookman and Mateo Retegui who have scored a combined 35 league goals, Atalanta should be able to do well.
