Finland and Slovenia will face off in the third-place playoff at the 2026 European Championships in Milan on Saturday afternoon. Both sides will be eager to avoid leaving this year’s EuroVolley empty-handed, and our prediction is that this match will go beyond three sets. 

Finland have enjoyed an incredible year, highlighted by winning the European League against the Netherlands in the final, while their run in this competition has seen them move to 12th in the world standings. 

The Finns finished second in their group with four wins and one loss. They defeated Greece and Italy 3-2 in the RO16 and quarterfinals but were unable to get past France, losing 3-1 in the semis. 

Joonas Jokela notched up 12 points against France and has been the team’s standout performer in this competition. Finland have won 16 of their last 20 matches in all competitions.

Meanwhile, for the second edition of EuroVolley in a row, Slovenia will be competing for the bronze medal, as they proved no match for the mighty Poland in the semis on Friday evening. 

They finished second to Italy with three wins and two losses in the group stage before thumping Serbia in straight sets in the round of 16 and battling past Belgium 3-1 in the quarter-final. 

Rok Možič has been excellent in this competition and led the team with 18 points in the last match. Slovenia have won 12 of their last 20 games and each of their last five against this opponent.
