England will end their group stage engagements in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with a game against Italy in Kolkata on Monday. This Group C match between the second-placed ‘Three Lions’ and the fourth-placed ‘Blues’ comes with our prediction of top batter total over 68.5.
By the time these sides take to the field, Nepal could be eliminated if they lose to the West Indies on Sunday. That would also mean England’s win here will book the top two spots for England (W2, L1) and the Windies. Italy have two points (W1, L1) and can still make a push for the top two spots if they win their two remaining games.
Regardless of the Super 8 expectations, this is Italy’s chance to make another mark on the global stage. The Blues can be a dangerous side on their day, but can they push England to the brink? Or, are England set to assert their supremacy? Read more for our analysis, team news, and match predictions.

England - Italy: Form Analysis
England started the tournament on the wrong footing, losing to the West Indies by 30 runs. It brought focus back on the ‘Three Lions’, who had to win against Scotland. They did that by five wickets on Saturday to stay alive in the tournament.
A loss here will push England almost to the exit door, as they have a negative run rate of 0.143, which will get worse with a defeat. Having won nine of their last ten completed T20Is, England at least have the confidence of avoiding an upset.
England lost two of their last three T20Is at this venue.
That could improve Italy’s morale, who posted their first World Cup win of their history on Thursday against Nepal. The comprehensive 10-wicket win for the Blues underscored their growing threat, as they bounced back from a 73-run mauling at the hands of Scotland in their tournament opener.
The Blues will end their group stage with a game against the Windies after this, and even a win here won’t guarantee progress but will surely enhance their reputation.

England & Italy Squad Analysis
England made just one change to their playing XI across the two games, with Luke Wood (one) and Jamie Overton (two) swapping their places. All eyes will be on Jofra Archer, whose fitness could come into focus, especially if they want to rest him before the important Super 8s.
Jacob Bethell (120 runs, SR 139.53) has been England’s best batter in the tournament and has even hit the most maximums (six). Adil Rashid (five) has the highest number of wickets among the bowlers.
Overton’s economy of 7.00 is England’s best in this tournament.
Italy’s heroes in their comprehensive win over Nepal were the Mosca brothers, Anthony (75) and Justin (60), being their top two batters. Among the bowlers, the leggie Crishan Kalugamage (three wickets, ER 7.14) could be their trump card.
Regular captain Wayne Madsen was injured in their first match and is likely to still be out of contention. Thomas Draca played against Scotland but was benched for the win over Nepal. Jaspreet Singh could continue in the XI.

Our England vs Italy Prediction
England haven’t quite found their rhythm in the tournament, and they could still be knocked out of the Super 8 qualification race. A game against Italy looks like their safest bet on paper, but the defeat to the West Indies in their first match underscored their vulnerabilities. Italy have nothing to lose as they aim to enhance their reputation on the global stage. They were clinical against Nepal, but this would be a tougher game.
Value is in the individual scores market, and our England vs Italy prediction is top batter total over 68.5.
England vs Italy Alternative Predictions
Jacob Bethell to score 50
Jacob Bethell has scored 32 or more in all his three matches in this competition. Since starting with a fifty against the West Indies, though, he’s yet to explode. This could be his chance to do just that. Back him to score a fifty at least.

This is England’s last group stage game of the tournament. If they qualify for the Super 8s, they are likely to be clubbed with New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka in Group 2. For Italy, this is their third group game and they will stay at this venue to finish their group engagements against the West Indies on 19th February.
The 20 qualifying teams were divided into four groups of five each. In the group stage, each team plays each of the other teams in the group once in a round-robin format, and the top two teams in each group will advance to the Super 8 stage.
In the Super 8s, the teams would be placed into two groups of four teams each. Prior to the tournament, the ICC announced the eight seeded teams based on the ICC T20I rankings, who will be placed in predetermined positions in the Super 8 stage, irrespective of their position in the group stage. If an unseeded team qualifies at the expense of a seeded team, it will take the position of the corresponding seeded team that fails to qualify from their group. In the Super 8 stage, each team will play against each of the other teams in the group once. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, which consists of two semi-finals, the winners of which face off in the final. No points would be carried over between stages.
