Cristina Bucsa and Elisabetta Cocciaretto, both unseeded, will meet in the second round at the 2024 French Open. This second meeting between these two comes six years after the first and the winner will play Liudmila Samsonova or Amanda Anisimova next. Cristina Bucsa defeated the qualifier Yuliia Starodubtseva in straight sets in the first round. She allowed the Ukrainian five games as she won her first main draw match at Roland Garros. The Spaniard had lost in the first round in each of her main draw appearances here. Her seventh win on clay, saw her move to within one win of tying her season record. Bucsa has had a shaky year and has compiled a 14-15 record so far. The 26-year-old has moved 11 places in the live ranking and is now 62nd in the WTA.

Elisabetta Cocciaretto defeated Bucsa to lift the Nules ITF title in 2018. Though six years have passed since she will be confident of doubling her advantage here. Cocciaretto is coming off a huge win in the first round. The Italian defeated 13th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia who last year made it to the semi-finals here. She won in three sets, coming back from a set down and relinquishing just five games in the final two sets. The win allowed Cocciaretto to improve her record to 18-14. She has recorded eight of her wins on clay. Despite this, she remains in 51st place in the live ranking as she has lost 60 ranking points.
