The last 16 of the hard court China Open sees Flavio Cobolli face qualifier Pavel Kotov. For the winner, there's a quarter-final against either third seed Daniil Medvedev or Adrian Mannarino. Time for our match prediction.

Cobollli was ranked 32nd in the latest rankings and a win here could take him as high as 30th. That would beat his current career high of 31st achieved last month. The 22-year-old is 31st in the Live ATP Race.

He recently got to the third round of the US Open and before that, this stage of the Cincinnati Masters, both played on hard courts. Cobolli also got to the final in Washington last month, losing to Sebastian Korda after winning the first set.

Round one of this tournament in Beijing him come from a set down to beat eighth seed Alexander Bublik. A final set tie-break was needed to get the win. Cobolli leads Kotov 3-1 in previous meetings and 2-0 on hard courts.

Pavel Kotov is the world number 63 but was a career-high 50th in June of this year. The Russian had lost his last three matches before this tournament, all played on hard courts. He had to qualify to get into this main draw.

Wins came against Sumit Nagal in straight sets and then he beat Roberto Carballes Baena in three, losing the middle one. That took him into a first round match against wild card Zhou Li and again had to go to three sets.

He lost the first set 6-1 in that match but fought back well to get the win. We tip Cobolli to win this match.
