In a very interesting matchday one fixture in the League phase of the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League campaign, Belgium's Club Brugge welcomes France's Monaco on Thursday. This match at Jan Breydel Stadium between the Blue-Black and the 'Red and Whites' comes with our prediction of over 2.5 goals. With both teams set to face some big names in the remaining matchdays, a win here could be vital for their knockout hopes.

Brugge are making their seventh appearance in this competition in the last eight seasons and have proven to be a tough opponent when playing at home. They started their European journey this season, overcoming Salzburg and Rangers in the knockouts. Having them defeated with ease, the Belgian hosts will be eager to continue the momentum.

Monaco qualified directly for the League phase after finishing third in Ligue 1 last season. The French visitors have a long way to go before they can replicate or better their 2003-04 final appearance in this competition. Starting well could be a big boost, but who's well-placed to do that? Read more for our analysis, team news, and match predictions.

Club Brugge - Monaco: Form Analysis

Brugge lost 1-0 away at RAAL La Louviere last weekend in the Jupiler Pro League. That made it two games without a win (D1, L1) after posting six consecutive wins in all competitions.

That sequence of wins saw Brugge win their qualifiers against Salzburg (4-2 aggregate) and Rangers (9-1) comfortably. Their scoring record makes for an impressive reading, as Brugge have scored in 29 of their last 32 UEFA competitive fixtures.

Brugge have won six of their last ten UEFA group phase matches at home!

That could be a bad omen for Monaco, who had just one win from their last 12 away Champions League matches (W1, D5, L6). The visitors are coming off some impressive wins, though, as a 2-1 away victory at Auxerre made it three out of four (W3, L1) to start the competitive campaign.

Eight goals in this sequence is a good sign of their scoring prowess, and the visitors are likely to push hard for goals. History suggests they can't be ruled out easily, as Monaco defeated Barcelona 2-1 on matchday one last year.

Club Brugge & Monaco Squad Analysis

Brugge have been innovative with their formations, using different variations of 4-3-3, lining up either with a single forward or a single pivot. Although they were aggressive with this formation even against Rangers in the previous Champions League round, this fixture may see them be a bit conservative in 4-3-2-1.

That could pave the way for Hans Vanaken to show impact from the central midfield role. He has two goals and an assist in his last three matches for Brugge.

Takumi Minamino has two goals in his last two matches for Monaco.

The forward picked up a minor injury against Auxerre but could be fit to play here. If he does, he may be lining up on the right flank in their usual 4-2-3-1 formation, although they have experimented with 4-3-3 and 4-2-2-2 occasionally this season.

Their training could also depend on the availability of players, as Monaco are still missing Lukas Hradecky, Aleksandr Golovin, and Stanis Idumbo. Star summer addition Paul Pogba is still building up fitness and is unavailable.

Our Club Brugge vs Monaco Prediction

Brugge start their seventh group phase campaign in the last eight seasons after making it to the round of 16 last year, where they lost to Aston Villa. They have been impressive in the qualifiers this season and are likely to bank on that experience to start well. Monaco also made it out of the group phase last year but were beaten in the knockouts by Benfica. Improving on that will depend on their away form, which hasn't been great.

This encounter is likely to be entertaining, and our Club Brugge vs Monaco prediction is over 2.5.

Club Brugge vs Monaco - Other Interesting Predictions

Club Brugge wins the match

Odds 2.7

Club Brugge have been impressive in Europe, winning 11 of their last 17 European matches at home, losing only two. Six wins out of their last ten group or league phase matches when playing at home suggest Brugge can be a tricky customer for any side. To top that, they have six wins from their last eight competitive matches this season. This could be their chance to start the campaign on a high.
