The floodlights will be shining in London this Friday night as Fulham takes a trip to the north of the capital to lock horns with Chelsea in a crucial Premier League encounter for both teams. The visitors have surpassed most expectations this season and find themselves in seventh place in the league, with 31 points in 21 matches, and just five behind Spurs in fifth. Perhaps more notably, they are above the likes of their opponents and Liverpool, though they have played a match more.  Fulham’s last match ended in a 1-0 defeat to Spurs, which was only their second loss in their last six matches, recording four wins in that time as well. Their away form could use improving, though, winning four of their ten so far, along with one draw and five losses. The Cottagers won the reverse fixture 2-1 in January and will be hoping for a repeat performance in this one as they try to secure European Cup football next season.

Chelsea’s form this season has been way below the high levels that they set themselves, causing them to dig deep in their pockets in the transfer window. Chelsea has splashed the cash on several big-money signings, most notably Enzo Fernandez, who became the highest costing player in English football history following his £107m move from Benfica to Stamford Bridge on deadline day. Chelsea will be hoping that their new signings will be able to turn the second half of their season around following a poor run of results which includes two wins, two draws, and two losses in their last six matches while at home this season, they’ve managed just five wins in their nine matches. The hosts will come into this match in 10th place with 29 points in 20 matches, but a win could take them into the top six; however, they will need several other results to go their way too.
