Mid-table Chaves will look to play spoilsport as they host Portugal Primeira Liga leaders Benfica, who would be keen to halt their two-game losing streak. The hosts are placed 11th with a 14-point cushion over the bottom-three spots while the visitors are top with a seven-point gap to chasers Porto. Chaves were held to a goalless draw by Gil Vicente in their last league match making it just two wins from their last eight league games, losing four and drawing two. They have already been blanked 5-0 by Benfica which made it ten losses from their last 11 league matches against the leaders, with the other being a draw. It doesn’t help matters that the hosts have lost three of their last four league games at this venue, although all four same them score goals giving hopes of avoiding being blanked.

Benfica are coming off a 2-0 loss to Inter Milan in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final making it back-to-back losses. They will certainly have one eye on the upcoming reverse leg at San Siro, but can’t let the momentum drop with another loss. They did lose their last league match to Porto by 2-1 but the title is still theirs to lose with a seven-point lead at the top of the table. With seven matches remaining that could prove to be vital and Benfica will hope their defensive strengths will once again come to the fore. They are still the league’s best defensive side conceding only 16 goals, which gets better when they are travelling. They have won their last six away league matches, each time with a clean sheet and another won’t be a huge surprise despite their recent stutter.
