Celtic and Stuttgart will continue with their European campaigns this Thursday when they clash in the Europa League knockout playoffs. Both teams come into this game with high hopes of securing last 16 berths: Celtic, who finished 21st in the league stage, and Stuttgart, who were 11th. For this match, which is to be hosted at Celtic Park in Glasgow, we have the preview and two predictions below.
The last time the two sides met was in the 2003/04 UEFA Cup, where Stuttgart won 3-2 on the night. Celtic advanced, though, with a 5-4 win on aggregate and will be looking to progress here as well. In the league phase, the Hoops managed three wins and two draws and lost three of their eight games.
Meanwhile, Stuttgart won five and lost three of their league stage matches, only missing automatic last-16 qualification by a point. Both teams haven't reached the last 16 of a European competition since 2012/13.

Celtic - Stuttgart: Form Analysis
Celtic have been resurgent in recent weeks and will carry into this game a run of 10 matches without defeat. Across those 10 games, they managed seven wins, and among them was a 4-2 win over Utrecht. That basically secured their place at this stage of the Europa League.
That win was a depiction of their never-giving-up spirit, also witnessed in their most recent game. Celtic rose from 2-0 down against Kilmarnock at the weekend to claim a 3-2 win. Four wins and a draw at home in the last five matches will be enough to keep the Celtic fans hopeful. However, the Hoops haven't won any of their last three two-legged European ties.
These teams last met in the UEFA Cup in 2003, with Celtic winning 5-4 on aggregate.
Stuttgart are also coming from a win in their weekend match in the Bundesliga. They triumphed 3-1 against Cologne, their fifth victory in six matches, and they will be well-motivated for this one. The Germans gained qualification for this stage for the first time in 13 years after a 3-2 win against Young Boys.
Having lost three of their four away matches in UEL, however, paints the picture of a team that could once again struggle in Glasgow. Despite the worrying numbers on the road in Europe, Die Roten have five wins in their latest seven away matches.

Celtic & Stuttgart Squad Analysis
For all the troubles Celtic have been through, it would be tougher without Kasper Schmeichel. Though he failed to keep a clean sheet in the league phase, the keeper made 30 saves, the seventh-most in the UEL this season.
The Dane isn’t the only one enjoying great form; Benjamin Nygren will be looking to extend his scoring form here. The Swede has three goals from 14 shots and an assist in the Europa League. Overall, this season Nygren has managed 16 goals and four assists. Celtic, however, have 10 players on the injured and inactive list.
Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller, Max Mittelstadt, Deniz Undav, and Jeff Chabot are at risk of suspension.
Stuttgart, on the other hand, will have a lot of reliance on the fruitful partnership between Deniz Undav and Ermedin Demirovic. The two forwards have had a combined 37 goals plus assists this season. With supply from the wings from Chris Fuhrich and Jamie Leweling, betting on any or both forwards scoring holds some value.
The two wingers themselves have been crucial outlets for goals. Fuhrich has one assist in the Europa League while Leweling has three goal involvements. A big headache for Stuttgart will be their four players on two yellow cards and likely to be suspended for next week’s match.

Our Celtic vs Stuttgart Prediction
German side Stuttgart comes into this game as outright favorites to take the first leg advantage. However, they will be misled to imagine this will be an easy outing. Celtic have been doing well ever since Martin O’Neill’s return.
The Scottish giants have particularly been on a good scoring run. Given that Stuttgart too are doing well in attack, betting on the goals market holds good value here. It is important to note, also, that Celtic haven't managed a clean sheet in the UEL so far. Our prediction for Celtic v Stuttgart is: BTTS.
Celtic vs Stuttgart Alternative Predictions
Over 2.5 goals
Three of Celtic’s last five matches produced over 2.5 goals, and twice in that run they scored 3+ goals. Throughout their last 10 matches, the Hoops have shown a good scoring run.
The same has been the case in Stuttgart’s recent outings. They’ve scored three or more goals in three of their last five outings. It makes sense, therefore, to back over 2.5 goals as our second prediction.
