Genoa’s route to the top half of the Italian Serie A is still littered with stumbling blocks. The next one comes in the shape of 15th placed Cagliari, who host the 12th placed Genoa next. Below we have a prediction for the match.

After run outs against Atalanta, Juventus and Bologna, Cagliari will feel this is a more manageable opponent. As such, they will be targeting a first win in four matches. Gli Isolani are coming off a 2-1 defeat at Bologna. The only positive from it was the fact that they managed to score, after failing in the earlier two matches. A 2-1 victory over Parma is Cagliari’s only win in the last six matches.

Just as Cagliari will view Genoa as a manageable opponent, so will Il Grifone feel about their hosts. Genoa have improved a lot under Patrick Vieira.

Apart from winning 21 points from 15 league games, it could be argued that there is some improvement in their play too. Johan Vasquez’s late goal snatched a point from Coppa Italia semi-finalists Empoli in a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
