Two sides hoping to secure their places in the Champions League round of 16 are set to face off at Stade du Roudourou, where Brest will be taking on Real Madrid on Wednesday night. Les Pirates are in 13th place in the League Phase standings, while Los Blancos are one point and three spots behind them in 16th ahead of the final match of the group stage. Let’s get into the match prediction!

Brest are one of six sides currently on 13 points, which includes eighth-placed Bayer Leverkusen. For these teams, it’s a straight shootout in this final match of the League Phase for a top-eight berth, with just a four-goal difference separating them, though Les Pirates are at the bottom of that list with +2 while Die Werkself are on +6.

Real Madrid, currently on 12 points, can still sneak into the top eight, but they will need plenty of results from around the grounds to go their way with eight teams between them and a seeding spot. Either way, both these teams are assured of at least playoff qualification.

Brest - Real Madrid: Form Analysis

Brest were handed a shock defeat in their last match in this competition, beaten 2-0 by Shakhtar Donetsk on the road - a result that saw them overtaken by five teams, forcing them to 13th place.

However, they bounced back from that defeat with a victory at the weekend, beating Le Havre in Ligue 1, marking their fourth win in their last five matches across all competitions.

In their inaugural Champions League campaign, Les Pirates have been excellent on their home patch, unbeaten in their three matches to date, winning two while holding Leverkusen to a 1-1 draw.

Brest have scored two or more goals in four of their last five home games across all competitions!

Meanwhile, Real Madrid have been far from their best in their title defence but confirmed their qualification last week with a resounding 5-1 victory over RB Salzburg at the Bernabeu.

That result was followed by a 3-0 victory over Real Valladolid over the weekend, which saw them extend their lead atop La Liga to four points after Atletico Madrid dropped points.

Notably, matches involving Los Blancos have been high-scoring affairs of late, with each of their last 14 producing three or more goals dating back to a 2-0 victory over Getafe at the start of December.

Brest & Real Madrid Squad Analysis

For Brest, left-back Bradley Locko sustained an Achilles tendon rupture at the start of the season and is expected to remain sidelined until the final weeks of the campaign.

The hosts are a little short-handed in defence at present, with Jordan Amavi (hamstring), Massadio Haidara (calf) and Julien Le Cardinal (hamstring) on the treatment table as well.

In defensive midfield, Jonas Martin has now missed 11 games with a muscle injury and is only expected to resume first-team training next month.

Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe will not feature for Real Madrid this week!

The French captain sustained a hamstring injury after bagging a hat-trick against Real Valladolid at the weekend, while the Brazilian is suspended due to an accumulation of yellow cards.

The superstar duo will join the likes of longer-term injury absentees Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao and Eduardo Camavinga on the sidelines for this crucial final match of the League Phase.

Our Brest vs Real Madrid Prediction

There is still a place in the top eight up for grabs for both of these teams and with their places in at least the playoff round already confirmed, we are expecting them to throw everything they have into getting a win here.

Real Madrid are missing two key attackers with Vinicius and Mbappe both out for this match, but Los Blancos still have more than enough firepower in their squad to trouble Brest on their home patch. Our Brest vs Real Madrid prediction is both teams to score.
