The Boston Celtics will tip off early on Saturday morning at TD Garden in an NBA Eastern Conference matchup with the NBA champion New York Knicks. Both teams lost their first game of the season putting them 11th and 13th in the very early standings.
The Celtics were second in the East last season but failed to make it out of the first round of the playoffs, blowing a 3-1 series lead over the Philadelphia 76ers who were the seven seed.
They opened their new campaign on the road at the Detroit Pistons who were the top team in the East in the regular season last time around. The Pistons outscored them 39-25 in the final quarter to pick up the win.
New York may have had a bit of a hangover from clinching the title last season, beating the San Antonio Spurs in five to lift their first title since the 1972/73 season.
They fell at home to the aforementioned 76ers in their opening salvo. They had swept the 76ers in the playoffs last season but Philadelphia did their damage in the third quarter, outscoring the Knicks by 11 to inflict a loss on the banner-raising team.
