Benfica will be keen to prove they are still competitors for the Portuguese title when they host Sporting Braga on Saturday. In the run up to this game, they dropped from top of the Primeira Liga to third while Braga arrive for this match placed fifth. As both look to bounce back, here’s our prediction for the match.
Benfica lost to a direct title rival, Sporting Lisbon last time out. The 1-0 away loss saw them overtaken by two teams and they wouldn’t want to lose more ground.
The hosts’ first domestic loss since August will spark the need to rise again.
Sporting Braga lost each of the last four matches against Benfica. For the sake of their European ambitions, they will hope for a break in that run.
When Benfica hosted the game as well, Braga suffered four straight defeats. That and the fact that they do not carry into this game a confident streak should concern the visiting fans.
In Braga’s last outing, they lost 2-1 at home to Casa Pia. That marked the fourth time in five matches that Braga conceded two or more goals.
It also left them with one win in five, though they are in better form away from home, winning six of 10.
