The undisputed match of the weekend in the Primeira Liga will see Benfica trying to take a step closer to securing the league title when they play host to Sporting Braga on Saturday evening. The hosts are currently in pole position in the league with 77 points, four points ahead of Porto in second place, with four games left to play in the season. Following their Champions League exit last month, Benfica managed back-back league victories over Estoril and Gil Vicente to take their recent league record to four wins and two losses in their last six matches. The hosts have been very good on their home patch this season, losing just once in 15 matches at Estadio do Sport Lisboa Benfica while winning 13 times and drawing just once. While the hosts attacking partnership of Goncalo Ramos and Joao Mario have been formidable this season, one of the very rare occasions that they were kept quiet this season was in the reverse fixture, which they lost 3-0 back in December. It’s a high-stakes match for the current league leaders, and they will know that a good result in this one could be a telling come end of the season. 

Meanwhile, Sporting Braga are still firmly in the hunt for an automatic Champions League qualification spot, though a loss in this one may mean that their Champions League qualification hopes will be left to the playoffs. The visitors are currently in third place in the Primeira Liga with 71 points after 30 matches, just two points behind Porto in second and seven points above Sporting Lisbon in fourth place. Braga are making a very strong push in the closing stages of the season, and after winning their last match 4-1 against Portimonense last week, the visitors are now unbeaten in their last eight matches, which includes seven wins and a draw. Their record on the road has also been impressive this season, with 12 wins and three losses in 15 matches, though they come into this one riding a three-match winning streak dating back to the end of February. It’s crunch time for the visitors, but they are carrying the type of form that could see them pull off a big result in this one.
