Predictions favor Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen when they switch back to domestic action with a home gane against Wolfsburg coming this Sunday. A rather shaky start has Die Werkself in fifth place going into this match against Die Wölfe who are 12th.
Unlike last season when they went all season unbeaten in the Bundesliga, and domestically, Leverkusen have already tasted defeat. A collapse from 2-0 to lose 3-2 to Leipzig broke their impressive run drawn from last season.
The champions have, however, responded as expected. Returning from the international break, they thrashed Hoffenhein 4-1 on the road. After that they left for the Champions League where they banked another three away points.
Florian Wirtz’s brace, Alex Grimaldo’s goal and Timon Wellenreuther’s own goal sealed them a 4-0 win at Feyenoord. It was a rare clean sheet too – Leverkusen’s second in six matches.
Wolfsburg do not come into this game commanding a great run. They are winless in the last five matches against Leverkusen, losing three. Back-to-back defeats last season confirmed their place as underdogs in this fixture but Wolfsburg will be plotting a surprise here.
This season hasn’t been perfect for the visitors, who are already dealing with two defeats in three league matches. A friendly win during the international break would not inspire them to a second straight league win.
Wolfsburg started their campaign with defeat at home to Bayern Munich but rose to a 2-1 win at promoted Holstein Kiel. They would, however, fall again on Match Day 3, this time at home to Eintracht Frankfurt. That left Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side with four defeats in five league matches.
