Eight years since they last faced off, Brighton and Barnsley are set to go head-to-head, this time in the third round of the League Cup. Both teams look to bounce back from unimpressive outings last time out. Below we have a prediction for the match.

Barnsley missed a golden chance to go second in League One after suffering a 1-0 loss at Blackpool on Saturday. They will hope for a positive response in the cup when they host the Premier League side.

Last time in this competition, Barnsley recorded a 2-1 win against Rotherham. That was one of their last five matches in which they failed to keep a clean sheet. In three of those matches, both teams scored.

Brighton will go into this match off the back of a disappointing result. They led 2-0 at home to Tottenham Hotspur in a Saturday league game, but it ended 2-2.

The bitter part is that Spurs’ equalizer was scored by Brighton’s Paul van Hecke. That marked a second winless outing for the visitors after their impressive win over Manchester City.

Brighton have now conceded five times in their last three matches while only keeping one clean sheet in the last five. In their last League Cup outing, Brighton beat Oxford United 6-0 to register their only clean sheet this season.
