An Eastern Conference matchup in the MLS sees 10th-place Atlanta United playing host to first-place Inter Miami on Wednesday evening. Will the Five Stripes be able to stop the red-hot Herons? Let’s get into the match prediction.
It’s been another frustrating season for Atlanta United fans who have seen their team be wildly inconsistent over the last five years. They risk missing out on the playoffs this season as they currently sit two points behind ninth-place DC United for a spot in the play-in tournament.
Since returning to MLS play from a disappointing Leagues Cup performance, Atlanta have recorded one win while losing two. Their last outing saw them only generate 0.48 expected goals (xG) in front of their home fans in a 2-0 loss to Nashville. It marked the second time in the last three games that Atlanta United have failed to find the back of the net.
As for Inter Miami, they’ll be looking to finish the regular season strong and secure the Supporters’ Shield ahead of the MLS Cup Playoffs. Lionel Messi and company have a seven-point lead over the West’s LA Galaxy for the league’s best record and a 10-point lead in the East over Cincinnati.
They cruised to a 3-1 home victory over Philadelphia despite conceding the first goal just two minutes into the game. Lionel Messi showed just how impossible to defend he is as he fired in two quick first half goals to give his team the lead.
