Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona will head to the King Abdullah Sports City in Saudi Arabia to face off in the semi-final of the Spanish Super Cup on Wednesday evening. The winner of this match will move on to meet either Real Madrid or Mallorca in the grand final on January 12. Check out our match prediction below.
Athletic Bilbao will be returning to the Super Cup for the first time since 2021 when they went on to win the competition, beating Barcelona in the final 3-2 after extra time.
Los Leones come into this match in excellent form, currently unbeaten in their last 15 matches across all competitions, including 11 wins and four draws, dating back to the start of October.
During their active unbeaten streak, Athletic have only failed to score in two matches, and picked up notable scalps along the way, such as Real Madrid and Real Sociedad.
Meanwhile, Barcelona were beaten finalists in this competition last season and have only lifted the Super Cup title once since it was revamped to a four-team format back in 2020.
Blaugrana will see this as a must-win competition too, having experienced a significant dip in form in La Liga ahead of the festive break when they lost back-to-back matches and the lead in the league standings.
However, the Catalans did beat this opponent in the top flight earlier this season and have only lost one of their last six encounters with them across all competitions.
