Lyon-Villeurbane is making its sixth consecutive appearance in the EuroLeague. During this year, the hosts have never progressed beyond the regular-season group stages. 

The previous edition was plagued by inconsistency and poor results. The team led by Pierric Poupet finished in 15th place in the regular season. During that time, they recorded 13 wins and 21 losses in 34 games.

Their preparations for the current campaign saw them beat SLUC Nancy Basket 115-71 at home in the LNB Pro A final. Before this, they warded off the threat of Dijon in a preseason fixture, securing a narrow 73-70 victory on the road.

Valencia Basket saw their two-match winning streak against Lyon-Villeurbane come to an end after suffering a heavy 98-69 home defeat in their final EuroLeague regular-season game in the previous campaign. Their goal is to revive that dominance.

Valencia failed to clinch the play-in spot in the previous edition of the EuroLeague, settling for 13th place. They finished with a 14-20 record.

In preparation for the current campaign, the Oranges first navigated two preseason games (W1, L1) before winning both matches against Unicaja in the semi-final and Real Madrid in the final to clinch the Supercopa ACB title for the second time in their history.
