This evening's Premier League matchday 29 is brought forward to 8.30pm, due to the Carabao Cup final being played that weekend (mid-March) by Liverpool Reds, who will then take on Newcastle Magpies. Today, it is Aston Villa who stand in the way of Arne Slot's men in their quest for a 20th English league title.
Well established at the top of the PL, 7 points clear of Arsenal, it will be a two-way battle for the title until the 38th and final matchday. Behind them, Nottingham Forest are already 13 points off the pace and Manchester City are 2 behind the leaders.
Aston Villa, for their part, have had a fairly disappointing season given the investment they have made in recent years, and again this winter with the arrivals of Marcus Rashford, Donyell Malen, Axel Disasi and Marco Asensio in particular. The Birmingham club are only 9th in the Premier League, and are already 5 points off 6th place, which qualifies them for the Conference League. The top 4, meanwhile, are 6 points behind.

Aston Villa - Liverpool: Form Analysis
Aston Villa, who are not in the doldrums either, have been inconsistent in recent weeks, winning just 2 of their last 7 games. The English club is also suffering from stiff competition in the English top flight, where any slip-up can be costly.
After losing to Wolverhampton, who are fighting to stay in the Premier League, it was thought that victory in their next game against Tottenham would give Unai Emery's men a boost. However, the home draw against Ipswich Town was extremely disappointing...
Liverpool have won 6 of their last 9 games.
Liverpool, for their part, are losing a little more than they did at the start of the season but are still a real war machine. The Reds have won 6 of their last 9 outings, and are counting on this game in hand to put a little more pressure on the Arsenal Gunners.
Although Ibrahima Konaté's team-mates have been ‘crushing’ their opponents less in recent weeks, a big performance from the men in red can happen at any time, and Tottenham, for example, paid the price in the second leg of the Carabao Cup at the start of February (Spurs won the first game 1-0, before being thrashed 4-0 at Anfield).

Aston Villa & Liverpool Squad Analysis
The numerous absences are also likely to explain Aston Villa's lack of results and consistency in recent weeks. For this English clash, Unai Emery will once again be without Ross Barkley, Matty Cash, Boubacar Kamara, Ezri Konsa, Amadou Onana and Pau Torres. It is therefore the defensive side of the team that will be badly affected. Leon Bailey is doubtful.
As for the players in the starting line-up, and in particular the in-form players, Marcus Rashford made an excellent start to the last match, scoring the decisive goal with a well-executed free-kick. Otherwise, the inevitable Emiliano Martinez will be on hand in goal to try and stop the Reds' attackers, backed up by his faithful defender Tyrone Mings, who has just returned from a knee injury and played his first minutes in the last match.
Mohamed Salah has scored 23 goals and made 14 assists in the Premier League this season.
Liverpool are likely to travel with fewer injuries this evening. Only Joe Gomez is out of action with a thigh injury. Cody Gakpo, who picked up an injury against Wolverhampton, remains doubtful and we'll have to keep an eye on Arne Slot's squad.
In terms of those present, how could we not mention Mohamed Salah? The Egypt international is having an extraordinary season, probably his best in terms of numbers, and has quite simply scored 23 goals and provided 14 assists in 25 Premier League games this season. He is clearly the team's number 1 attacking asset.

Our Aston Villa vs Liverpool Prediction
It's a match that will count at the end of the season. In the midst of Champions League action, we are treated to a Premier League clash at 8.30pm! With the title race well and truly underway, Liverpool will be keen to take advantage of this trip to Villa Park to put a little more pressure on Mikel Arteta and his men, by taking at least an eight-point lead over their main rivals for the title. The Reds will have to be wary, however, as their defence has remained very shaky in recent weeks, and Aston Villa could well take advantage of this to present them with a tricky match.
Our Aston Villa - Liverpool prediction is Liverpool or draw and both teams to score.
