Two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka will start her quest at the US Open with a match against Camila Osorio. The two face off for the third time as top seed Sabalenka slots in as the favorite. In the earlier two meetings between them, Sabalenka won, an outcome this prediction also fronts.

Sabalenka has had a mixed year, though recent months haven’t been her best. She has won three titles so far but none since March in Miami. The urge to reignite that fire meets real ambition here as she goes for a third straight US Open.

It will be hard to write off the world No. 1, who is unbeaten in 14 matches here and only lost two sets in the process.

Osorio has a big game on her hands, and she will want to do something not yet done in New York – eliminating Sabalenka in the first round. She is looking to progress to the second round for the first time in four attempts at the US Open.

Her form this season doesn’t favor her here either, having suffered first-round defeats five times on tour, including at the Australian Open. In her two meetings with Sabalenka earlier, she also lost in straight sets, and her highlight this season is the Rabat quarter-final.

Osorio suffered straight defeats in her last three meetings with top three players, and we expect the same here.
