The first round of the outdoor hard court Shanghai Masters will see Alex Molcan up against qualifier Federico Cina. The winner will be up against ninth seed Alex de Minaur in round two. Molcan has been in better recent form than his opponent and our prediction is that he will win this match.
Molcan had to qualify for the recent China Open and after doing so, he reached the second round where he was beaten by Karen Khachanov.
He is currently 84th in the live rankings, 63 places above Cina.
This year has seen him mainly playing on clay. He's won four outdoor hard court matches, losing the same number.
Federico Cina had to win two qualifying matches to make it into this main draw. He did so with some difficulty. Both of his matches against Linang Xiao and Aziz Dougaz saw him needing to win a deciding third set to progress into this first round.
Cina has a 19-11 record on outdoor hard courts this year His wins have mainly come on the Challenger Tour. On the main ATP Tour, only once this year has he made it to the second round of an outdoor hard court tournament. That was in last month's tournament in Chengdu, though he was a lucky loser after being beaten in the qualifying rounds.
