Karen Khachanov has been in good form in recent weeks. The 26th seed takes on ninth-seeded Alex de Minaur in round four of the outdoor hard court Shanghai Masters. Between them, they have already played four tie-breaks in this tournament. Our prediction here is more than 0.5 tie-breaks.

The winner goes into a quarter-final against either top seed Alexander Zverev or 19th-seeded Alexander Bublik.

Karen Khachanov recently made it to the semi-finals of the US Open. He was then a quarter-finalist in Beijing. 

So far in this tournament, he has beaten Arthur Fery (all three sets going to a tie-break) and Adrian Mannarino in straight sets.

His last three matches have seen four tie-breaks played.

These two players are 2-2 in previous meetings and 1-1 on this surface. Their last outdoor hard court match included a tie-break.

Alex de Minaur was the runner-up in Beijing but retired early in the second set against Novak Djokovic. That was the second match of his in a row that had seen a retirement after Hubert Hurkacz retired in the Beijing quarter-final. The Australian has reached three ATP Tour outdoor hard court quarter-finals in 2026.

He's only had to play one match so far, beating Rei Sakamoto 7-6 6-4.

Four of his last five completed matches have included a tie-break.
