The summer is here, and the transfer market is heating up nicely, with the latest big news from England revolving around the likely move of Kieran Trippier to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Trippier left Newcastle United on a free transfer at the end of last term and is reportedly agreeing terms ahead of his move to Molineux Stadium.

Trippier ‘agrees’ to Wolves move after Newcastle exit

Newcastle United endured a difficult 2025-26 season, bowing out of the UEFA Champions League in the Round of 16 before ending the Premier League season in a lowly 12th, which rules them out of Europe next term.

As a result, the Magpies are expected to be busy this summer. Reinforcements are needed to get them back to the upper echelons of the EPL, while they are also likely to lose a few players who will be wanting to remain in European competition in 2026-27.

Last week, the Magpies confirmed the sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for around €80m, and a second departure is expected, with Kieran Trippier, who will not feature at the 2026 World Cup, reportedly close to securing a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 35-year-old defender’s contract at St. James’ Park ended on the final day of last season, meaning he is now a free agent. It is understood that Wolves have already made contact with the player and have received verbal confirmation that he is willing to move to Black Country.

The Old Gold are rebuilding with the hopes of immediate promotion after finishing bottom of the Premier League last season. They are also expecting several players to leave this summer, with Jose Sa and Hwang Hee-chan all but out the door already.

Trippier arrived on Tyneside from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid at the start of the 2019-20 season for a fee of €14m and featured in 160 games across all competitions for Eddie Howe’s side, scoring four goals, while providing 29 assists.

Wolves eye four players as part of summer overhaul

In addition to Trippier, Wolves are also keeping an eye on at least four other Premier League players as part of their summer rebuild, with Dennis Cirkin reportedly being among one of those at the top of their transfer wishlist.

The Sunderland left-back was linked with the Old Gold last summer, but a move never materialised. Unfortunately, injuries caused him to fall out of favour under Regis Le Bris, leading the Black Cats to opt not to extend his contract at the Stadium of Light.

Axel Tuanzebe is another who has been linked with a move to Molineux, with Burnley yet to offer him a contract renewal. Solly March’s exit from Brighton was confirmed last week, and at 31, he is viewed as one who still has plenty to give to help Wolves return to the top flight.

Josh Laurent is now out of contract at Turf Moor. The midfielder was key to the Clarets’ promotion a couple of seasons ago and offers plenty of second-tier know-how. However, that should also see him attract strong interest from elsewhere this summer.
