by Daniel Ngulu in Tennis Predictions
Daniel Altmaier and Pedro Martinez, both unseeded, will face off at the Estoril Open on Tuesday. They will battle in the first round with the winner meeting either Roberto Bautista Agut or Miomir Kecmanovic next. Daniel Altmaier is having a difficult campaign and is arriving in Estoril with a losing record. He has been defeated eight times in 13 outings and two of those defeats have come on clay. The world number 54 has managed just two wins in his last nine outings. He is coming off a second-round exit in Miami. Altmaier is a strong performer on clay despite his shortcomings on the surface this year.
Pedro Martinez is having a strong season and will be confident of subduing Altmaier here. The Spaniard, who has alternated between the tour and challenger circuits, has compiled a 14-6 record. Eight of his wins have come in 10 outings on clay. Martinez is coming off a title run at the Girona Challenger, his first title of the year. He also finished as runner-up in Tenerife and was a semifinalist in Santiago. Winning in Girona has propelled him 11 places in the live ranking to 77th. Martinez defeated Altmaier on clay in their only encounter to date. This was in Kitzbuhel three seasons ago.
