Indian rugby fans finally received the news they have been patiently waiting for last week, with Rugby India officially confirming that there will be a second season of the Rugby Premier League. The tournament is scheduled to take place at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad from June 16 to 28.

Hyderabad to host Season 2 of RPL in June 2026

Following the successful inaugural season held in Mumbai last year, the Rugby Premier League is set to return between June 16 and 28, 2026, with Hyderabad’s Gachibowli Stadium selected as the venue to host this year’s tournament. We will be covering all this season’s matches in our in-depth rugby predictions.

Rugby India confirmed that the league will once again feature six franchises and maintain its dynamic Rugby 7s format. By bringing together top Indian and overseas talent, the competition aims to elevate the profile and appeal of rugby across the nation.

Hyderabad’s selection to host the tournament further highlights its emergence as a global sporting destination. Rahul Bose, president of Rugby India, emphasised the league’s focus on continuous involvement and stakeholder value, saying:

“We will always strive to deliver a better product for our fans, do better by our sponsors, and last but not least, be better partners for our franchises, their owners and their support staff.”

The decision to host the tournament in Hyderabad also aligns with the strategic ambitions of GMR Sports, who are working closely with Rugby India on plans tied to the development of a Satellite Sports City within Bharat Future City in the coming years.

2025 Rugby Premier League table: Can Chennai defend RPL crown?

Despite producing a remarkable league phase, in which they topped the standings with 36 points, winning nine and losing only one of their 10 matches, Hyderabad Heroes were unable to follow up in the knockout stage, bowing out to the Delhi Redz in the semi-final.

The Heroes then lost to the Bengaluru Bravehearts 17-12 in the third-place Playoff, while the Chennai Bulls, led by Player of the Tournament Va’a Apelu Maliko of Samoa, went on to win the inaugural title, crushing the Delhi Redz 41-0 in the grand final in Mumbai.
