India Shines At 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow
India concluded the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with an impressive fourth-placed finish in the standings, collecting 39 medals, including 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze.
What makes this achievement particularly impressive is that this year’s global event excluded several of the nation’s most productive medal-winning disciplines from previous editions such as wrestling, badminton, table tennis, hockey and shooting.
Boxing was India’s most successful sport, with the nation securing a record haul of 10 medals, including seven gold - the most ever won by any nation at a single CWG. Sakshi Chaudhary was among the standout performers, while Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain added a silver in the women’s 75kg division.
In weightlifting, Mirabai Chanu cemented her legacy by winning a third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold, while Asmita Dey became India’s first CWG champion in Judo just before Harsh Tokas picked up another gold later the same day.
India’s athletics team also produced several historic performances, with Gulveer Singh becoming the country’s first track and field athlete to win two individual medals in the 10,000m and 5,000m. Neeraj Chopra marked his return to the event with silver in the men’s javelin after missing the 2022 edition through injury.
In total, India fielded 122 athletes across eight able-bodied sports and five integrated para sports.
Nigeria Finish As Highest-Ranked African Nation at 2026 CWG
Nigeria had a very impressive Commonwealth Games campaign, finishing seventh on the final medal table with a total of 24 medals, including 10 gold, seven silver, and seven bronze across athletics, weightlifting, judo and para-sports.
Nigeria ended the Games as the highest-ranked African nation ahead of South Africa and Kenya!
Athletics once again proved to be Nigeria’s strongest discipline. Samuel Ogazi stormed to victory in the men’s 400m with a time of 44.25 seconds, becoming the first Nigerian to win a CWG gold in the event. Ezekiel Nathaniel also broke new ground by claiming the country’s first-ever men’s 400m hurdles title.
World record holder Tobi Amusan added another international medal to her collection with bronze in the women’s 100m hurdles, while the relay squads earned bronze in the mixed 4x400m and in the men’s 4x100m following Canada’s disqualification.
South Africa finished the 2026 CWG with 28 medals, one more than at the 2022 Games in Birmingham. Australia topped the overall standings with 171 medals, including 70 gold, while England claimed second place with 110 medals.
