Cricket: Joburg Super Kings lead 2026 SA20 standings at halfway stage of competition
JSK maintain unbeaten SA20 record after Sunrisers’ match abandoned
As we pass the halfway mark of the 2026 SA20 season, the league table is starting to split into two halves, with the Joburg Super Kings (15 points), Paarl Royals (13) and Sunrisers Eastern Cape (12) opening up a gap over the other three teams.
However, only JSK have managed to maintain an unbeaten record to this point, having taken 15 points (W3, 1NR) from their four games after their fixture against SEC at the Wanderers Stadium was washed out on Saturday afternoon.
Faf du Plessis’s side played out the first super over in the competition's history last week against the Super Kings, when the Durban-based team equalled their formidable total of 205/4 in their 20 overs batting second.
USA international Shubham Ranjane (50 runs), Du Plessis (47) and Matthew de Villiers (38) all chipped in with important contributions before Donovan Ferreira blasted a quick-fire 33 runs off just 10 deliveries and confirmed our cricket predictions.
Following Saturday’s washout, Paarl Royals moved up to second place in the league standings with a commanding seven-wicket victory over MI Cape Town, where Sikandar Raza took 4/13, and Ottniel Bartman bagged 2/8 in just 2.4 overs.
Faf du Plessis discusses switch from CSK to JSK

Former South African captain, Faf du Plessis, recently opened up on seeing out the rest of his playing career with the Joburg Super Kings after parent club Chennai Super Kings opted against re-signing him for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. He said:
“You have this fairytale in your mind that somehow, I thought I would finish back in the IPL where I started my IPL career and do a season with CSK. I thought that was always on the cards, but life doesn't always work out like that. So I'm glad that it's still possible to do it here in SA20.”
Du Plessis featured in 14 IPL seasons and played 154 matches for four different franchises, including CSK, Rising Pune Supergiants, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi Capitals. He scored 4,773 runs at an average of 35.10 and a strike rate of 135.79.
JSK return to action this afternoon, when they head to the Newlands Cricket Ground to face MI Cape Town in match 15 of the 2026 SA20 season.
