Tata Steel Sells Jamshedpur FC For Just ₹100

Jamshedpur FC will now come under new ownership after being sold to Churchill Brothers Sports Club Private Limited, marking the end of Tata Steel’s involvement with the Indian Super League club.

The ownership transfer was officially completed for a nominal ₹100, with the Goa-based outfit assuming full control of Jamshedpur Football and Sporting Private Limited (JFSPL), the company behind Jamshedpur FC.

The development comes after Tata Steel confirmed that the Men of Steel would not participate in the upcoming ISL season!

Tata Steel chose not to pay the ₹55 lakh fee mandated by the league’s new club-led model before confirming that Jamshedpur’s operations would be discontinued, with the club now expected to prioritise grassroots football.

The Red Miners made their ISL debut in 2017-18 and quickly established themselves as one of the league’s prominent clubs. Their biggest achievement came in 2021-22, when they lifted the ISL League Winners’ Shield, becoming just the third club to do so after FC Goa and Mumbai City FC.

What The Acquisition of Jamshedpur Means for Churchill Brothers

The deal surrounding the sale reportedly includes Jamshedpur FC’s ISL sporting licence and the contracts of 12 players and two coaches, with the transfer still believed to require approval from the All India Football Federation (AIFF).

As a result, Churchill Brothers could now be set for an ISL debut, with the Goa-based club having informed the AIFF of their acquisition of Jamshedpur’s licence. They will assume the Men of Steel’s place in the top flight once the federation gives the transfer its approval.

The acquisition also represents a major milestone for Churchill Brothers and their continued presence in Indian football. They have a rich history in the domestic game and secured their promotion after initially winning the I-League in 2024-25 before Inter Kashi were subsequently crowned champions following a CAS ruling over a player eligibility dispute.
