Football: Zayyad Musa misses out as Eric Chelle names Super Eagles B Squad for CHAN

Remo Stars dominate Super Eagles B squad for CHAN 2024
With Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup campaign not going according to plan, Eric Chelle is under significant pressure to deliver at the upcoming African Nations Championship in Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya across the month of August.
Chelle announced his final 23-man squad for the tournament last week, and a total of nine players from the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) champions Remo Stars made the cut, including their skipper for CHAN 2024, Nduka Junior.
Among the other Sky Blue Stars in the touring party are Sikiru Alimi and Godwin Obaje, while last season’s top goal scorer in the 2024-25 NPFL, Anas Yusuf, is being talked up to be a player to keep an eye on next month.
The biggest shock in terms of exclusions from Chelle’s Super Eagles B squad was that of Kano Pillars’ midfielder Zayyad Musa, especially given the role he played in helping the team qualify for this tournament. Jide Fatokun was a forced omission after joining Sudanese outfit Al Merreikh.
Aminu Umar (Tuzlaspor), Aniekeme Okon (Rivers United), Kabiru Muhammad (Kwara United), Joseph Atule (Enyimba) and Ayomide Cole (Ikorodu City) are some of the other notable exclusions from the provisional 35-man list

Nigeria drawn into favourable Group for CHAN 2024
Chelle and co arrived in Zanzibar and commenced final preparations for the tournament over the past weekend. They are scheduled to play two warm-up matches against the Senior National Team of Zanzibar on July 28 and 31, and you can keep up with the action from those games via our football livescore tool.
At the tournament proper, the Super Eagles B have been drawn into Group D of the competition. While it is the smallest group, featuring only four teams, Group D is far from straightforward and will require Nigeria to be at the top of their game.
Headlining the group are the defending champions, Senegal, who are expected to be the team to beat in this section, while Sudan and Congo round out the group. The clash between the Super Eagles and Teranga Lions B teams on August 5 is expected to be one of the matchups of the tournament.
