Onyeka attracting interest from Championship, La Liga clubs
The winter transfer window has entered the business end, and clubs across Europe are hard at work trying to sign players who could help them end the second half of the season on an upward trajectory, whether that be pushing for titles or to avoid relegation.
Super Eagles’ defensive midfielder Frank Onyeka is a player who has been making headlines in recent days, with several clubs reportedly eyeing a move for him before the transfer deadline, with Brentford believed to be open to allowing him to depart.
Despite losing several key players at the start of the season, such as Bryan Mbeumo and Yoanne Wissa, the Bees are having an impressive campaign in the Premier League, currently in seventh place, despite losing to Chelsea in their last match, which confirmed our football predictions.

Onyeka recently helped Nigeria claim the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, but he has struggled for game time at the Gtech Community Stadium this term, making just six appearances to date, none of which were in a starting role.
The 28-year-old arrived at Brentford in 2021 for a fee of around €7m from Augsburg and signed a new deal with the Bees in 2023 that runs until the summer of 2027. It is understood that the club will listen to offers in the region of €7 to €10 for his signature.
Blades become latest team to signal interest in Onyeka
According to reports, Sheffield United are the latest team to signal their interest in signing Onyeka this month, but they are likely to face stiff competition to secure his services, with several clubs across Europe also believed to be in the race to secure his services.
Coventry City have reportedly contacted Brentford to enquire about the 28-year-old’s availability, while Birmingham City and La Liga outfit Valencia have also been credited with an interest in the defensive midfielder in recent days.
His national team captain, Wilfred Ndidi, has also been linked with a move to Los Che, but the widespread feeling is that a move for him is unlikely, given that he only joined Besiktas last summer and has been a key part of the Black Eagles’ midfield this season.
Onyeka is expected to be a part of the Brentford squad for this weekend’s Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest at the Gtech in what could be his last appearance for the club, with the transfer window set to close a week later.
