The Confederation of African Football (CAF) held its annual awards to celebrate the footballers, staff and teams who have excelled over the past 12 months in Rabat on Wednesday night. Morocco dominated the winners' list, with Achraf Hakimi and Ghizlane Chebbak named African Players of the Year for 2025.

Morocco dominates winners' list at CAF Awards 2025

Paris Saint-Germain and Morocco international Achraf Hakimi was named the Confederation of African Football Men’s African Footballer of the Year at the CAF Awards 2025 in Rabat on Wednesday, while Ghizlane Chebbak went home with the Women’s award.

Hakimi went into the ceremony as the favourite to win the continental award ahead of Victor Osimhen and Mohamed Salah after an incredible season with PSG, in which the Ligue 1 giants secured a stunning quadruple, including their first-ever UEFA Champions League title.

Moroccan women’s team captain Chebbak was widely considered a somewhat more surprising selection, as many felt that her Atlas Lionesses teammate Sanaa Mssoudy and Nigeria’s skipper Rasheedat Ajibade were the front-runners for the crown.

Despite a solid year, which included Mamelodi Sundowns reaching the CAF Champions League and impressing at the FIFA Club World, as well as Bafana Bafana qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, South Africa left the CAF awards empty-handed.

Masandawana and Bafana Bafana shot-stopper Ronwen Williams was among the final three nominees for the CAF Goalkeeper of the Year, and Amajita defender Tylon Smith was in the running for CAF Young Player of the Year, but those awards eventually went to Yassine Bounou and Othmane Maamma, respectively.

CAF Champions League winners Pyramids FC were honoured with the Men’s Club of the Year award, while Fiston Mayele picked up the Men’s Inter-club Player of the Year. Notably, Bubista was named Men’s Coach of the Year after guiding Cape Verde to a historic qualification for the World Cup next year.
