Klaasen Takes Top Spot in IPL Run-Scorer Race Against PBKS
After a mixed start to the 2026 Indian Premier League season, the Sunrisers Hyderabad are now in full flight and moved to the top of the standings with 14 points in 11 games following their impressive 33-run victory over the Punjab Kings on Wednesday afternoon.
The standout performer for SRH in that match was once again Heinrich Klaasen, who scored a stunning 69 runs off just 43 deliveries to lead his side to a solid target of 235/4 in their 20 overs. Ishan Kishan added 55 runs of 32 balls, and Travis Head chipped in with 38 (19).
Klaasen has been the most consistent batter in the IPL by some margin this season. The former South African international has confirmed our IPL predictions in all 11 matches he has played this season, scoring 28+ runs in each innings that he has featured.
To date, the 34-year-old has already struck five half-centuries, which is the most by any player in the competition. He is averaging a spectacular 54.89 at a strike rate of 157.32, including a staggering 36 fours and 23 sixes across his 11 innings.
Behind the South African, Sharma has also been mightily impressive, now on 475 runs from his 11 innings, including a highest score of 135 not out - the second-highest individual knock by any player in the competition behind KL Rahul’s mammoth 152*.

Kumar, Kamboj Hold Narrow Lead in Race for Purple Cap

Over to the bowlers, and the race for the Purple Cap is red-hot. As it stands, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar leads the way with 17 wickets in 10 matches, including a best of 5/3 in three overs against the Delhi Capitals.
The 37-year-old made history on Thursday last week by becoming the first fast bowler to complete 200 matches in IPL history. Earlier this season, Kumar also became the first pacer and only the second player after Yuzvendra Chahal to reach 200 wickets in the IPL.
However, Kumar still has plenty to do in order to maintain the Purple Cap, with CSK’s Anshul Kamboj also on 17 scalps. The 25-year-old medium-pacer’s best figures in the competition are 22/3, while maintaining an average of 18.70 and an economy rate of 8.91.
The chasing pack features Prince Yadav (LSG), Kagiso Rabada (GT), and Eshan Malinga (SRH), with all three currently on 16 wickets apiece. The best individual bowling performance of the competition is 5/23 by Mohsin Khan (LSG) against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
