Sooryavanshi Becomes First Player To Reach 400 Runs in IPL 2026

After confirming our Indian Premier League predictions in eight straight matches, the Punjab Kings saw their unbeaten record in this season’s competition brought to an end by the Rajasthan Royals at the PCA New Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first by the Royals, the Punjab franchise set an impressive target of 222/4, with wicket-keeper batsman Prabhsimran Singh leading the charge at the top of the order, scoring 59 runs in just 44 deliveries, including 6 fours and 1 six.

Cooper Connolly and skipper Shreyas Iyer chipped in with 30 runs apiece batting at three and four, while Marcus Stoinis smashed a sizzling 62 runs from 22 balls, striking at an incredible 281.82, including 4 fours and 6 sixes.

However, despite the Kings' batters impressive performances, the headlines over the coming days will once again be dominated by teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who now sits at the top of the Orange Cap standings after becoming the first player to reach 400 runs in the competition.

The 15-year-old came out the blocks in his customary aggressive fashion, blasting 3 fours and 5 sixes for his 43 runs off a mere 16 deliveries. His knock came at a strike rate of 268.75, while his tournament average after eight games sits at an unbelievable 238.09.

Additionally, Sooryavanshi’s six maximums took his tally to 99 sixes in 26 T20 innings. He is now clear at the top of the standings for the most sixes struck by a teenager, nine ahead of Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who took 52 T20 matches to reach 90 maximums.

Archer Closes Gap To Top Spot in Purple Cap Standings

It is not just the Orange Cap that has been changing hands with regularity this year, as the race for the Purple Cap has been just as heated, and is now being shared by four players after Jofra Archer claimed his 14th wicket of the tournament against PBKS on Tuesday.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar ultimately leads the way owing to his economy rate of 7.61. Anshul Kamboj and Eshan Malinga are the other bowlers on 14 scalps after eight games apiece, while Prince Yadav and Kagiso Rabada lead the chasing pack with 13 wickets each.

Notably, the biggest mover in the Purple Cap standings this week was Mohsin Khan, who delivered stunning figures of 5/23 in the Lucknow Super Giants’ loss to the Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday. He is the only bowler to claim a five-fer in the IPL so far this season.
