Two of India’s best tennis players, Sumit Nagal and Yuki Bhambri, have returned to the nation’s tennis squad for their crucial 2025 Davis Cup World Group I clash against Switzerland. The AITA released the eight-player team that will travel to face the Swiss in Bern on September 12 and 13 last week.

Nagal and Bhambri set to feature against the Swiss

A total of 26 teams are preparing for battle at the 2025 Davis Cup World Group I, which will take place between 12 and 14 September 2025. The 13 winners of the ties in this group will move on to the 2026 Davis Cup first round Qualifiers, while the losers will enter the 2026 Davis Cup Group I Playoffs.

India overcame Togo 4-0 in the 2025 Group I Playoffs and received a couple of major boosts in the last week, with the first being the return of the nation’s highest-ranked men’s singles player, Sumit Nagal, to the squad for the next round of the Davis Cup.

While the 27-year-old has endured a huge drop from inside the top 100 to 306th in the world rankings due to a poor run of form over this season, he is still widely considered India’s best men’s player. He will have a crucial role to play in Switzerland next month, and you can stay up to the minute with all the Davis Cup action using our tennis livescore.

Joining Nagal in returning to Team India is Yuki Bhambri, who is the country’s top-ranked doubles player alongside N Sriram Balaji, but has not featured for the team since travelling to Pakistan back in February 2024.

India’s squad for the upcoming tournament also includes singles players Karan Singh and rising talent Aryan Shah. Sasikumar Mukund, Dakshineshwar Suresh and Rithvik Bollipalli were selected as reserves, while veteran Ramkumar Ramanathan has been left out of the touring squad.

The Swiss team is led by the likes of Jerome Kym, Stan Wawrinka and Dominic Stricker, indicating that they will pose a massive challenge for their opponents, but India have the advantage in the head-to-head standings (3-2).
