GS Delhi Aces secure commanding victory over Yash Mumbai Eagles

Season 7 of the Tennis Premier League has delivered a first-time champion, with the GS Delhi Aces surging to the title with a commanding 51-36 victory over Yash Mumbai Eagles at the Gujarat University Tennis Stadium over the weekend, confirming our tennis predictions

In the opening match of the Grand Finale, Belgian star Sofia Costoulas once again showed her class, beating Riya Bhatia 18-7 to end the tournament with an unbeaten record in the women’s singles category.

Costoulas then teamed up with Jeevan Nedunchezhian in the mixed doubles event and secured a 16-9 victory over Bhatia and Niki Poonacha, while Billy Harris and Nedunchezhian followed suit in the men’s doubles, overcoming Poonacha and Amir Dzumhur 8-4.

Harris bit back in the men’s singles final by beating Dzumhur 16-9, but it was too little too late for the Mumbai team.

Earlier in the day, GS Delhi Aces defeated the Rajasthan Rangers 51-28 in the semi-final, where Costoulas delivered off the bat, beating Ekaterina Kazionova 19-6, which was the biggest margin of victory recorded in a tie this season.

In the second semi-final, Yash Mumbai Eagles took down the fancied SG Pipers Bengaluru, with the standout result of the tie seeing Riya Bhatia pull off a stunning comeback to edge Indian star Shrivalli Bhamidipati 13-12 to set up the team victory.
