The 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is just over a month away from kicking off, and India became the latest team to confirm its squad for the global tournament this past weekend. Harmanpreet will once again lead the Women in Blue, while uncapped Nandani Sharma also made the cut.

Rawal, Deol left out as Sharma Earns International Call-Up

The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced the squad that will travel to England and Wales for the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup over the weekend. The 15-member squad includes several stalwarts, but also sees a few surprise exclusions. 

Harmanpreet Kaur, who led the Women in Blue to the ODI World Cup title last year and confirmed our cricket predictions, will once again skipper the team for the upcoming tournament, while the world’s number-one-ranked ODI batter, Smriti Mandhana, will serve as the team’s vice-captain. 

The BCCI have opted for experience behind the stumps, with Yastika Bhatia set to back up Richa Ghosh. Owing to their performance in the ODI World Cup, the batting order is largely unchanged, with Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues making up the bulk of the top order. 

Four players are set to feature in their first-ever T20 World Cup, including Bharti Fulmali, Nandani Sharma, Kranti Goud, and Shree Charani. Goud’s inclusion stems from the team’s disappointing performance during their tour in South Africa earlier this year. 

Renuka Thakur will be entrusted with the new-ball responsibilities along with Arundhati Reddy. The spin department will revolve around Deepti Sharma and Shreyanka Patil, with Charani and Rahda Yadav providing additional options in that regard. 

Among the most notable exclusions for the tournament are Pratika Rawal and Harleen Deol, both of whom were left out. Amanjot Kaur and Kashvee Gautam were overlooked due to injuries, with the former expected to remain sidelined for at least a couple of months.
