PKL 12: New format and rule changes set to be implemented in Pro Kabbaddi League 2025

Expanded PKL format and new structure
Season 12 of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) is now just days away from kicking off. Changes to the competition for the 2025 campaign promise to make this season the best and most fan-centric yet, and you can check out the latest betting offers for PKL 12 right here.
The biggest change for PKL 12 is the expansion of the league phase, which will now feature 108 matches. That means that each of the 12 participating teams will now play 18 games each, which will undoubtedly increase both the competitiveness and consistency required to move to the next round.
In addition to the expanded format, this season we will see the introduction of Play-ins and a revamped Playoff structure. Now, eight teams from the league stage will have the opportunity to progress to the Playoffs.
Under the new structure, teams finishing fifth to eighth will compete in Play-ins matches, and the winners move on to the eliminators, a similar process to the Play-ins in the NBA. The entire Playoff journey will now feature a total of three Eliminators and two Qualifiers before the Final.
Tie-breakers and new points system

Another major change for this season is the introduction of a comprehensive tie-breaker rule system to all league-stage games, in which a Golden Raid format will be included. Should a match end in a tie, a five-raid shootout will decide the outcome.
In the shootout, teams send out seven players and nominate five raiders. Out and revival rules do not apply, and if the match is still tied after five raids, the Golden Raid rule comes into effect. Another tie after the golden raid will see matches decided by a toss.
In an attempt to improve clarity and accessibility for fans of the PKL, tournament organisers have agreed on a simpler points system for PKL 12. A win will now carry two points, while a defeat is 0 points.
PKL 12 kicks off with the Telugu Titans facing the Tamil Thalaivas, followed by the Bengaluru Bulls taking on Puneri Paltan on Friday in Vizag. The league will also stop off in Jaipur, Chennai and Delhi before this season concludes.
