The ODI series between Australia and India heads to the Adelaide Oval on Thursday for match two, with the hosts leading 1-0 after securing victory at the Optus Stadium. The Men in Blue have to win this match to keep the series alive, and here we go through the biggest talking points ahead of the clash.

Team news and possible changes ahead of Adelaide ODI

India are looking to bounce back from an underwhelming performance at the Optus Stadium, where they lost the rain-interrupted first ODI by seven wickets (DLS method), but confirmed our cricket predictions for the match.

One of the major talking points from the match was around returning stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who were dismissed cheaply. Since then, many have been calling for rising star Yashasvi Jaiswal to be brought back into the starting 11.

In the lead-up to the second ODI, images from India’s training session have been doing the rounds on social media, showing Sharma in deep conversation with Jaiswal, while also shadow-practising with his bat in what looked like a mentor role.

On to the bowlers, and there were always concerns around how India would fare without Jasprit Bumrah, and those concerns only grew after the first match. Heading to Adelaide, Prasidh Krishna is being tipped to come into the attack, potentially for Harshit Rana.

The other player that many fans are calling on Gautam Gambhir to reinstate in the playing 11 is Kuldeep Yadav. The left-arm spinner was one of the standout performers at the 2025 Asia Cup, where he took 17 wickets and followed up by claiming 12 scalps in the Test series against the Windies.

As for Australia, Alex Carey and Adam Zampa are set to return to the team after missing the opening match in Perth and will replace Josh Philippe and Matt Kuhnemann. Josh Inglis is still ruled out, but reports suggest that he will be available for the final ODI in Sydney.

Key stats and records between Aus-India in Adelaide

India must win the second ODI to send the series to a decider in Sydney, and they will likely be confident in their chances of getting a result, given their excellent record at the Adelaide Oval in recent years.

The Men in Blue are unbeaten at this venue in their last five 50-over matches dating back to 2008. It is also a ground that Virat Kohli will have fond memories of, having scored a stunning century to lead his side to victory when they last faced the Baggy Greens here.

Looking further back, India have stepped out at the Adelaide Oval 15 times since 1980 in ODIs and have notched up nine wins in that time, while five matches ended in defeat and one game was tied (against Sri Lanka in 2012).

The Aussies, on the other hand, have not fared too well here in recent times, as they have suffered defeat in two of their last three ODIs. Notably, teams batting second have won six of the last eight matches at the Oval.
