Twenty teams entered the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, and now only eight remain as the global tournament heads into the Super 8 stage this weekend. There are three fixtures on the schedule between Saturday and Sunday, including a blockbuster between 2024 finalists India and South Africa in Ahmedabad.

Qualified teams and Groups for T20 World Cup Super 8

From massive upsets to super over chaos, the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup produced incredible entertainment through the group stage, and the action is now expected to move up a notch as we enter the Super 8 stage of the competition this weekend.

The Super 8’s include teams that finished in first and second place in their groups. This stage sees the qualifying sides split into two groups of four, with each team playing the other once before the top two from each section progress to the semi-final.

Pakistan became the final team to book their spot in the last eight by securing a commanding victory over Namibia in midweek. The Shaheens shockingly missed out on qualifying for this stage last year after coming up short against the United States.

Former champions Sri Lanka also made the cut after an early exit in 2024, while the biggest surprise package of this year’s tournament is Zimbabwe, who romped into the Super 8 with an unbeaten record of three wins and one no-result during the group stage.

India and South Africa set to renew rivalry this weekend

While there are plenty of mouth-watering fixtures on the horizon, one match that is likely to dominate headlines this weekend is the blockbuster between India and South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday afternoon.

The Men in Blue and the Proteas contested a thrilling final that went down to the wire back in 2024, and they locked horns in a five-match T20 series late last year, which the former won 3-1 and confirmed our cricket predictions before coming out on top by 30 runs in a World Cup qualifier last month.

India are the clear favourites to retain the title, but they were not at their absolute best in the group stage, where they survived two massive scares against the USA and the Netherlands, either side of routine victories over Pakistan and Namibia.

South Africa had a scare of their own, as they were taken to a Super Over by Afghanistan in their second match. However, aside from that fixture, the Proteas were fairly convincing in their wins against New Zealand, Canada and the United Arab Emirates.

While these two teams are widely expected to progress to the semi-finals from this group, that is far from guaranteed, with the West Indies and Zimbabwe coming through the group stage with flying colours, and both yet to taste defeat in this year’s global showpiece.
