Shubman Gill overtakes Kohli in Orange Cap standings
After a disappointing start to the season, losing their first two games of this season’s Indian Premier League, the Gujarat Titans have come storming back, rattling off three wins in a row to move into fourth place with six points after five matches.
GT notched up their third win of the competition on Friday evening, when they successfully chased down a target of 180 against the struggling Kolkata Knight Riders in Ahmedabad, a result that also confirmed our IPL predictions.
The standout performer with the bat for the Titans was Shubman Gill, who smashed 86 runs off 50 deliveries, including eight 4s and four 6s. That knock marked his third half-century in the competition and took him to the top of the Orange Cap standings, now on 251 runs in four innings.
However, the chasing pack is not far behind, led by Virat Kohli on 228 runs. Heinrich Klaasen is currently in third place, just four runs off King Kohli, while Rajat Patidar and Ishan Kishan round out the top five with 222 and 213 runs, respectively, in five innings apiece.
After Rajasthan Royals’ storming start to the campaign, 15-year-old starlet Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Dhruv Jurel and Yashasvi Jaiswal were halted in their tracks by SRH last week, with the former two dismissed for ducks, while Jaiswal was sent back for just one run.

Krishna on course for back-to-back Purple Caps

On to the bowlers, and Prasidh Krishna has once again announced himself as the man to catch, having notched up 11 wickets in five matches, including a best of 28/4. He is one of only seven players in this year’s competition to claim a four-fer after the first 25 games.
Despite the Chennai Super Kings having another disappointing campaign to this point, the five-time champions have a reason for optimism in Anshul Kamboj, who has taken 10 wickets and is one of the few bowlers to have claimed a scalp in every match in the competition.
Prince Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi are tied on nine wickets apiece in third and fourth, respectively, while English fans will be thrilled to see Jofra Archer looking close to best again, now on seven wickets in five games. Archer will be key for the Poms T20 series against India in July.
