Football: Nigeria’s Ibrahim Adewale to feature in Champions League after signing for Allsvenskan champions Mjallby AIF
Adewale’s incredible rise from Abuja to Europe’s grandest stage
Over the years, Nigeria has produced some of the greatest footballers that Europe has ever seen, and this year, another star was born in Ibrahim Adewale, who is set to join 2025 Allsvenskan champions Mjallby AIF next year.
Just two years ago, the 19-year-old from Abuja was playing his football for the Tripple 44 Academy in Nigeria, where he enjoyed an excellent season in 2024, scoring 20 goals as the team’s captain.
In 2025, Swedish third-tier outfit IF Karlstad took him abroad on loan, and in his first season with them, Adewale has racked up a stunning 13 goals and four assists in 29 appearances, helping the team to fourth place with one game left to play this term.
Adewale’s excellent form in the third tier caught the attention of Mjallby AIF, who enjoyed a remarkable season themselves, winning their first-ever Allsvenskan title with three games to spare, while also smashing the league record for most points for a 16-team format season.
The Yellow and Black are now set to feature in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers next season and have already begun bolstering their squad, making Adewale their first new signing by offering him a long-term contract until 2030.
The deal has already been confirmed with documents signed by the 19-year-old and Mjallby, while medicals were reportedly completed for the player earlier this week. It is understood that Adewale will be unveiled as Mjallby’s newest addition sometime next week.
