Jasprit Bumrah missed the trip to Edgbaston but made an immediate impact last time out
After missing the second Test at Edgbaston, Jasprit Bumrah came in guns blazing in the third as he was behind a stellar performance at Lord's on Friday. His presence alone was enough to see India, his nation, dismiss England for 387. It has to be made clear that this was on day 2.
In that outing, Bumrah proved to the world why he is considered the best bowler in the world. He was on a hunting spree and did not flinch when he came to claim the wickets of Chris Woakes, Jofra Archer, and Joe Root. Talking about Joe Root, he has been dismissed 15 times by Bumrah, which is currently the most in international cricket.
Let's have a look at the numbers between Bumrah and Joe Root in Tests:
- Runs: 311
- Balls: 612
- Dismissals: 11
- Average: 28.27
So far, Jasprit Bumrah has dismissed four batters when adding Ben Stokes to the equation. It has to be noted that this is the 31-year-old's second time that he has dismissed four batters in an innings.
Bumrah breaks Dev's record
It was on day 2 of the third Test that Bumrah managed to break a record that we never anticipated would be broken. His 13th fifer from 35 away tests saw him surpass the legendary Kapil Dev for the most five-wicket hauls in away tests. This also saw him become the 15th Indian to etch his name on the Lord's honors board. Before Kapil Dev's record was broken, he was sitting at 12 five-wicket hauls in 66 away Tests, making him the second most successful Indian bowler in England.
Jasprit Bumrah has made 206 appearances, and this is across all formats. In this period, he has 453 scalps and also reached the 450-wicket mark.
Let's have a look at the names with the most test wickets for India in England:
- Ishant Sharma - 51
- Japrit Bumrah - 46
- Kapil Dev - 43
- Mohammed Shami - 42
- Anil Kumble - 36
As we can see from the list below, Ishant Sharma leads with 51 wickets, putting the best bowler in the world, Jasprit Bumrah, in second place. However, it's only a matter of time before Bumrah surpasses him, considering the series is far from over.
When it comes to way tests, Jasprit Bumrah currently leads the pack with 13. Coming in at second is Kapil Dev (12), followed by Anil Kumble (10) and Ishant Sharma (9).
Jasprit Bumrah has not only broken Kapil Dev's record. When talking about most wickets by an Indian in the SENA in international cricket, his name pops up. He has the most wickets with 223, and Anil Kumble comes in at 222. Going further down the line, coming in third is Mohammed Shami (218), fourth is Javagal Srinath (212), and last in this category is Kapil Dev with 211 wickets.
