On Wednesday evening, the tournament begins for Ghana and Panama, both of whom will be hoping to make something of an unlikely splash in the World Cup waters over the next week or so.
The Ghanaians haven’t often thrived on the biggest stage in world football, but they did enjoy their time in the sun back in 2010, reaching the quarter-finals having played some excellent stuff in South Africa. Since then, they’ve only featured at one tournament, exiting at the group stages in 2022. For Panama, this will be just a second appearance at the World Cup having featured in Russia back in 2018, when they lost three out of three in the groups.
Far from an easy game to call, this could be tense, tight and lacking in overall quality, but it may just be worth betting on the Ghana win. After all, it is the Africans who have a serious match winner in their ranks in the form of Antoine Semenyo, and his inclusion could make all the difference.

Ghana - Panama: Form Analysis
The Black Stars enter this tournament off the back of a poor run of form, there can be no denying that. Sure, they stopped the rot by tying with Wales recently, and they played well in doing so, while they were only narrowly beaten by Germany earlier this year, but the fact remains that they’re without a win in six games, five of which they’ve lost.
Before that, they got the better of the Dominican Republic, while they’ve only lost one of their last four, which came against the brilliant Brazilians
Panama’s recent form is far better than what the Ghanaians have served up, with the central Americans coming into the tournament off the back of a sturdy tie with Bosnia & Herzegovina, who’ve since made a pleasing start to the tournament by tying with co-hosts Canada. Before that, they got the better of the Dominican Republic, while they’ve only lost one of their last four, which came against the brilliant Brazilians.

Ghana & Panama Squad Analysis
Ghana’s current head coach is the hugely experienced Carlos Queiroz, who chopped and changed during that last game against Wales. Coming off the bench to score, the lively Caleb Yirenkyi impressed. He could start here, while both Inaki Williams and Antoine Semenyo, who is Ghana’s best player, are expected to return to the starting XI. Thomas Partey, who is currently the subject of several criminal charges in the UK, has been denied a Canadian visa and will not feature in this game.
Ismael Diaz was given a rest from the start most recently, and he is one player who is highly likely to return to the starting XI.
Panama boss Thomas Christiansen probably won’t switch things up too much following his team’s latest performance, which was decent. Ismael Diaz was given a rest from the start most recently, and he is one player who is highly likely to return to the starting XI. Diaz plays his club football in Mexico and is arguably Panama’s most threatening offensive option.

Our Ghana vs Panama Prediction
Ghana’s form is far from easy on the eye, but if we look beyond some poor results and focus on some of their recent performances, it’s not tough to see them getting the job done here. After all, they are up against a Panama side that has been conceding a lot. Back in March, they were only narrowly beaten by the Germans, while they were recently the better team against Wales, despite resting key man Antoine Semenyo, who has more than enough quality to drag his nation through here.
Our Ghana vs Panama Pick: Ghana to Win.
