The first round of Group C’s fixtures doesn’t come lightly for top-ten sides Brazil and Morocco, getting thrown in the deep end by commencing the World Cup campaign with their toughest fixture, as they meet at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey this Saturday.

At first glance, people may assume that Brazil will be the dominant nation here, though based on recent times, the Moroccans shouldn’t be far behind in terms of quality. The 2022 World Cup semi-finalists have the experience of reaching a big-tournament final as recently as January 2026, which should hold them in good stead.

The Brazilians haven’t exactly lived up to expectations since their 2002 World Championship title, not climbing higher than fourth place in the last five tournaments, failing to exceed the quarter-finals in four, including their elimination in the previous World Cup to Croatia on penalties.

It’s easy to be surprised then by such an imbalance in the early odds for this meeting. Equally surprising is the price of +115 for the North-African striker Ismael Saibari to find the target at least once. Out of all the Moroccan forwards, the PSV man is in the fittest form, who should be instilled with confidence after his solid season for the Dutch champions, which should see him in the Morocco starting XI.

Brazil - Morocco: Form Analysis

The two teams have had equal preparation time heading into the group stage in the US, although the Brazilians have encountered some defeats in their last ten games which cannot be said for their opponents. This includes a loss against fellow top-ten France, current world-18th Japan, and a team of much lesser ranking, Bolivia. Ancelotti’s men concluded their warm-up by beating both Panama and Egypt, though they have failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last five, which is worrying.

This experience and morale boost will do wonders for the North African side in this next huge competition.

Something else that sets Morocco apart is the fact that they’ve competed in a high-stake tournament a lot more recently, reaching the final of the AFCON, and after drama and deliberation, being named champions. This experience and morale boost will do wonders for the North African side in this next huge competition. The Atlas Lions come into this tournament on the back of a 1-1 tie against a very good Norway team.

Brazil & Morocco Squad Analysis

Scoring lots of goals in their four 2026 matches to date, there isn’t a shortage of top-quality Brazilian players to choose from, and we should hope to see some exciting football by the South Americans. Namely, Vinicius Junior grabbed the fourth highest number of goals and assists in LaLiga in the recent season, and is a key man for his nation, whilst Igor Thiago had a great season for Brentford, which he’s carried into Brazil’s warm-up games, with two goals in their last three. These two players, alongside Raphinha, should compose Brazil’s front three.

Key players such as Brahim Diaz, Achraf Hakimi and Ismael Saibari are all expected to start.

The Moroccans might be without two key players for this opening game. Both Abde Ezzalzouli and Noussair Mazraoui were both forced off injured in their final friendly. It will be a big disappointment if both miss out, although they do have solid back-up options. Key players such as Brahim Diaz, Achraf Hakimi and Ismael Saibari are all expected to start.

Our Brazil vs Morocco Prediction

Looking at the early market, the seventh-best team in the world according to FIFA, Morocco, are certainly being dismissed too early in our eyes, especially PSV’s Ismael Saibari, who is being massively underestimated.

The second-highest goalscorer for his club, and coming here with five goals in his last four starts for club and country, Saibari averaged 3.88 shots per 90 minutes in the Dutch top-flight, as well as 2.00 shots per game in the African Cup of Nations.

The Moroccans will have counter attacking opportunities in their opening game, with The Samba Boys shipping goals in all of their last five heading onto the main stage, and we should expect Saibari to be leading the Atlas Lions’ charge.

Our Brazil vs Morocco Pick: Ismael Saibari 1+ Shot on Target.

Brazil vs Morocco - Other Interesting Picks

Tie

Odds +280

We are talking about two very good sides, FIFA  world ranking sixth versus seventh, so there is tons of quality on the field, so the game should be fairly level, or at least more level than the early market suggests.

Both Brazil and Morocco should definitely fancy themselves to beat the other two nations in their group, Haiti and Scotland, so considering they’re each facing their toughest opponents in the first round, they may be more than content with settling into the tournament with a tie.

Ismael Saibari to Score

Odds +600
For many of the same reasons as above, Ismael Saibari also looks generously priced to hit the net, as his team look sure to be a threat on the break. The PSV forward that averaged 0.63 goals per 90 minutes in the recently concluded Dutch season certainly knows where the net is, as well as arriving in good form, scoring five goals in his last five appearances on the field.
